London Fashion Week: Tom Ford Review

Opulent, provocative and edgy could best describe Tom Ford’s Spring/ Summer 2014 collection, which showed in London on Monday night. Undoubtedly the mastermind designer has created quite the buzz this year with his mysterious persona and impeccable personal style that inspired rapper Jay-z to entitle a track on his latest album “Tom Ford.” Anna Wintour, Hamish Bowles, Cate Blanchett, and Colin Firth all sat front row, while editors and fashion enthusiast all eagerly anticipated the debut collection from designer Tom Ford, which was held in one of the royal palaces. (Around the corner from Buckingham Palace…Talk about location!)

Unlike the other London shows that commenced with romantic fabrics, Ford went straight for the kill with hard-edge leather revamped in sultry shades of caramel and chocolate brown. Motorcycle jackets that were both elegant and edgy ranged in color and texture, while the body hugging leather dresses were so well tailored that at first glance they resembled naked skin. (Very “A-la-Kim Kardashian pre-Kayne”, we secretly hope that she’ll accentuate her curves in a leather dress next season.)

Long sleeves and short hemlines were up next as Ford effortlessly transitioned to wrist covered dresses adorned with psychedelic swirls that only Ford could make appear contemporary and relevant. A look that’s ideal the statuesque frame of the young Hollywood elite.

Dress overload? Have no fear, who better to create a power suit than “Mr. Suit and Tie” himself! Waist-cinching suits ran the gamut in short/long jacket styles to curvilinear shoulders.  A definite nod to the better end of 80s power dressing.

There are beautiful moments in life that words simply can’t describe…Ford closed the show with a “more is more” feast for the eyes with gowns that donned sparkling embellishments that swallowed dresses whole. Sequins, crystal and colored glass encrusted garments were captivatingly glamorous! (I’m currently breathing into a brown paper bag from excitement) Keep an eye out for Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez because we’re almost sure they’ll be wearing the dazzling designs on a red carpet.
