TEXTURE

A FASHION SERIES ON TEXTURE: WHAT IS TEXTURE?

Texture is an important element in design, and it also affects how you wear clothing.  When it comes to texture in the fashion industry, or more specifically, the garment or apparel industry, texture refers to the body and surface of the fabric or textile.  Texture itself has many different characteristics that can create the illusion of movement, hide or showcase body types, and, best of all, can be executed at any budget level.  Texture can be rough or smooth, can be described as crisp, coarse, shiny, or sheer. It can also be created using the more common, higher-profile textiles like leather, fur, feathers, and lace.  Lately we have seen texture becoming more crucial to designers as they struggle with a depressed economy to create budget-friendly designs.  As a result, they have found creative ways to incorporate texture on smaller scales, for instance, using feather accessories and lace cut-outs. Keep that in mind this winter, as knit again has become an essential for everyone's closet at home.
